Large Auditorium Stage Upgrade

The Large Auditorium is a 350-seat multipurpose venue at a college in the heart of Philadelphia. Like the city it calls home, it has a history of hosting high-profile events, including political debates, town halls, live theater, and award ceremonies. In recent years, however, deteriorating lighting infrastructure has placed increased strain on maintenance operations and constrained the facility's functional capabilities.

A lighting overhaul designed by Illuminations Inc. At the heart of this overhaul is the Cielux P5L - a 175W Ellipsoidal fixture with 10, 26, and 36 degree beam angles. The P5L has enough punch to handle long throws across the house with a tight, controlled beam and no spill, isolating speakers at the podium and highlighting the stage for live theater and award ceremonies. While the P5L provides bright, controllable front lighting, the top lighting is achieved with the P5F, a 175W LED fresnel. Illuminations chose a Fresnel fixture to create an even field of lighting across the entire stage - opening the door for intense, dramatic effects during theatrical productions.

In addition to saving power and improving the visual look of the space, the Cielux fixtures reduce the labor required to run the theatre. Where previous changes required old halogen fixtures to have new gels installed, the new Cielux fixtures are color-changing and controlled via DMX. This allows the theatre to handle a corporate award ceremony by day, and shift to a dramatic Broadway-style production by night at the push of a button. From power savings to labor cost reduction, the lighting revamp delivers the flexibility and ease of use that a truly multipurpose venue requires.

Cielux Lighting is proud to support Illuminations in bringing this vision to life.
